Nutrient Additives

What are nutrient additives?

Nutrient additives are specialised supplements used alongside base nutrients to support different aspects of a plant feeding program. Depending on the product, they may include root stimulants, silica, enzymes, Cal-Mag supplements, microbial products or flowering additives.

These products are commonly incorporated into hydroponic, coco coir and soil feeding schedules according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

Types of nutrient additives

• Root stimulants: Commonly used during propagation, transplanting and early growth.
• Silica supplements: Included in many feeding programs as directed.
• Enzymes: Designed to complement nutrient routines in a range of growing systems.
• Cal-Mag supplements: Suitable where additional calcium and magnesium are recommended.
• Flowering additives: Used alongside base nutrients during the flowering stage according to product directions.
• Microbial products: Beneficial biology to complement living soil and selected hydroponic programs.

How to choose the right nutrient additives

Select additives based on your growing medium, plant stage and existing nutrient program.

• Hydroponics: Choose additives labelled for hydroponic systems.
• Coco coir: Consider supplements compatible with coco feeding schedules.
• Soil gardens: Select products appropriate for soil-grown plants.
• Growth stage: Match additives to propagation, vegetative growth or flowering as recommended by the manufacturer.

Tips for using nutrient additives

• Always follow the manufacturer's feeding schedule and application rates.
• Use additives alongside a suitable base nutrient program.
• Monitor pH and EC where appropriate for your growing system.
• Measure products accurately before mixing.
• Store nutrient additives in a cool, dry place between uses.
