What is the HY-GEN Complete pH Test Kit used for?

It’s designed to test and adjust the pH of your nutrient solution or water. Ideal for hydroponics, coco, and soil grows where you're testing feed water—not soil itself. It does not measure EC/PPM.

What comes with the HY-GEN Complete pH Test Kit?

The kit includes a test tube, dropper pipette, colour chart, concentrated pH indicator, and 150 mL bottles of HY-GEN pH Up and pH Down. Everything you need to test and adjust your pH.

How do I use the HY-GEN pH Test Kit?

Fill the test tube with your nutrient solution, add one drop of indicator, swirl gently, then compare the colour to the chart. Adjust with pH Up or Down, mix thoroughly, and retest if needed.

How accurate is the HY-GEN pH Test Kit?

It gives a visual estimate within about 0.5 pH—enough for reliable plant care. Lighting and solution colour can affect accuracy, so check under bright, neutral light. For exact decimals, a digital pen is better.

What pH range should I aim for?

For hydro and coco, most growers target 5.8–6.5. In soil, 6.0–7.0 is typical. Staying in the correct range helps prevent nutrient lockout and promotes healthy growth.

When should I test and adjust pH?

Overshooting is common—go slow, mix fully, and test again. If you overcorrect, don’t try to instantly “balance” by adding the opposite—just dilute or start fresh if needed.

No. Never mix them directly—they’ll neutralize each other. Always adjust pH in the nutrient solution, one at a time, with proper mixing and testing between steps.

Reservoir pH can drift due to nutrient uptake, temperature shifts, or biological activity. Runoff pH may differ from your reservoir due to media interactions and salt buildup.

Is the HY-GEN pH Test Kit safe to use?

The pH indicator is low-risk, but pH Up and Down are chemical solutions. Avoid skin/eye contact, use gloves for large mixes, and rinse spills promptly—especially on surfaces.

How should I clean and store the kit?

Rinse the test tube thoroughly after each use. Store the kit upright, sealed, and out of heat or direct sunlight. Replace the indicator if colours become weak or inconsistent.
