I highly recommend getting one of these things if you're going to get either a heat mat or a tube heater. They're great for making sure you don't burn your lil planties and they do save you power in the process.
Just make sure you pop the sensor in an appropriate location. Too close to the heater and it'll turn off more regularly as it'll warm up quicker. Too far away, and the sensor will likely not record the temperature desired, meaning the heating device will stay on indefinitely. Find a sweet spot to manipulate the behaviour.
I have the sensor on mine close to the bottom of the pots in my tank, as I'm using a seedling mat heater, and am concerned about the roots getting a little too warm. This ensures it turns off once it starts to get too warm, but maintains a steady temp.
Love this product. I sprinkled a little around my house plants and the fungus gnats have all but gone. Yay! I have also sprinkled around my roses and the scale and mealy bugs seem to be leaving as well. Thank you Dr Greenthumbs for carrying this on your online store.
