Description

Give your plants the solid foundation they deserve with our Mineral Based Soil—designed for serious growers of cacti, succulents and bonsai. This premium Australian‑formulated blend from Dr Greenthumbs combines superior drainage, nutrient retention and root health in one bulk bag.

Whether you’re picking up from our Bellambi NSW depot or arranging delivery to your nearest freight hub, this bulk option is built for performance and scale.

Features

  • Tailored for cactus, succulent & bonsai enthusiasts: specifically developed to address the issues of generic pine‑based soils (poor drainage, root rot) with a 70% mineral blend (pumice, zeolite, volcanic basalt, gypsum, limestone) + 30% premium organic compost

  • Fast‑draining formula: Helps roots breathe, avoids soggy root zones and reduces rotting risks.

  • Enhanced with calcium & silica: Supports stronger cell walls, improved nutrient transport and robust growth.

  • High mineral content = improved nutrient retention: Less fertilizer lost to leaching, better value, better performance.

  • Bulk sizes for serious usage: Choose 300 L or 900 L for large collections, commercial setups or landscape‑scale projects.

  • Flexible logistics: Collect from our Bellambi depot or we can arrange delivery to your nearest freight hub (customer arranges trailer/ute for pickup).

  • Made for Australian growing conditions: Formulated by experts and endorsed by nursery professionals.

Why You Should Buy

  • Scale & value: Bulk volumes mean fewer bags to handle and cost advantages relative to smaller retail packs.

  • Performance: This is a purpose‑built substrate—not a generic mix. Your water‑sensitive plants will thank you.

  • Reduced maintenance: With better drainage and nutrient retention you’ll be fighting fewer issues (less rot, fewer failed plants).

  • Trusted brand: Dr Greenthumbs is well known in the organic growing world for quality media and support.

  • Logistics ready: We’ve laid out freight estimates clearly and provide collection options—so you can plan upfront, not guess.

FAQs

Q: Can I use this soil for other plants besides cacti/succulents?
A: Yes—it’s formulated for arid plant types (cacti, succulents, bonsai) and optimises drainage. It can be used for other container plants, but those needing higher moisture retention may need a different mix or added organic component.

Q: Does this soil contain fertiliser or nutrients?
A: The blend is primarily a substrate—designed for structure, aeration and mineral content. You’ll still need to fertilise according to your plant’s requirements. The mineral base helps retain the fertiliser you apply, so you may need less.

Q: Is this suitable for indoor plants or higher humidity areas?
A: Yes, technically. But because it drains quickly and is low in organic matter, indoor or humid‑zone growers should monitor watering frequency carefully. The benefits show up particularly where root‑rotting or soggy conditions are a risk.

Q: How should I water plants in this soil?
A: Water thoroughly, then allow the mix to dry down considerably before watering again. The rapid‑drain nature means shorter moisture periods. Monitor pot weight and root zone dryness rather than strict calendar watering.

Q: What if I want to modify the mix for other uses (e.g., tropical plants or seed‑raising)?
A: For plants needing more moisture retention or smaller root systems you could mix in more organic media or use a finer particle size. However, for performance with cacti/succulents, the formula as‑is works best.
