Description
Introducing the Dr Greenthumbs Super Soil Nutrient Kit—a premium, ready-to-use soil nutrient mix formulated to supercharge your growing medium from start to finish.
Crafted in Australia with 100% Aussie‑sourced ingredients, this kit is designed to enrich your soil ecosystem, increase nutrient availability, and reduce reliance on additional fertilisers. Simple to use: combine with peat moss or coco‑coir, worm castings or compost, and aeration media (perlite/pumice/hydroton), then store for 1‑3 months to allow full breakdown and microbial activation.
Features
Balanced blend of organic and mineral amendments formulated for full plant life cycle (seed → flower).
Made in Australia using 100% locally sourced ingredients for quality control and sustainability.
Designed for mixing: e.g. 300‑500 g per 30 L soil mix (10 L peat moss or coco‑coir + 10 L compost/worm castings + 10 L aeration media).
Requires a curing period (1‑3 months) after mixing to allow nutrients to stabilise and microbes to proliferate.
Suitable for use by simply adding water (once the soil mix is ready); no complex nutrient schedule required.
Option to dilute (1:4 with non‑amended soil) for young plants or seed/clip propagation to avoid “nutrient‑burn”.
Compatible with additional amendments (e.g., mycorrhizal powder) to further support root growth.
Why You Should Buy
The Dr Greenthumbs Super Soil Nutrient Kit delivers a smart, time‑saving solution to create high‑performance growing medium without guesswork. With this kit, you’re setting up a rich, biologically active substrate that supports strong root development, balanced nutrient uptake and optimal growth conditions. Ideal for busy growers who want professional‑level results without managing multiple separate products. By using a pre‑amended soil base, you’re also reducing the need for frequent fertilisers and helping create a stable ecosystem that supports long‑term plant health.
What exactly is the Super Soil Nutrient Kit? A dry amendment blend you mix into your base media (peat/coco + compost/castings + aeration) to build a full-cycle, water-only style “super soil” after a short resting (“cook”) period.
What base mix should I start with? Per 30 L batch: 10 L peat moss or quality coco coir, 10 L compost or worm castings, and 10 L aeration (perlite/pumice/hydroton).
How much Super Soil Nutrient Kit do I add? 300–500 g per 30 L of base mix. Use ~500 g for hungry/fruity crops; drop to ~300 g for lighter feeders like leafy greens and herbs.
How long does the Super Soil Nutrient Kit need to “cook” before planting? Let the mixed soil rest 1–3 months so microbes can break nutrients down and make them plant-available. Turn the pile weekly and keep it evenly moist (not wet).
Where should I “cook” the soil — in a tote, under a tarp, or in pots? Any of those work: under a tarp out of rain, in lidded tubs/bins with airflow, or even directly in your final containers. Just keep it evenly moist and give it a weekly turn.
Can I plant seedlings and cuttings straight into fresh Super Soil? Not recommended. It’s hot for juvenile plants. Use established, vigorous plants — or create a “buffer zone” of unamended media around the root ball so young plants can grow into the nutrients gradually.
What’s a good dilution for seed raising or sensitive cultivars? Cut Super Soil with unamended media up to 1:4 (super:plain) for gentler starts.
Do I need to pH or feed during the run? Keep it simple: avoid salt feeds. If you want extras, stick to biology-friendly inputs like aerated compost tea, liquid kelp, or microbial inoculants (e.g., mycorrhizae).
Tap water okay, or does it need to be dechlorinated? Use dechlorinated water. If you don’t have a filter, leave a bucket out overnight so chlorine can off-gas. This helps protect the soil biology you’ve built.
Best way to water? Slow and even. A 5 L pump sprayer makes it easy to avoid channeling and dry pockets; aim for uniform moisture over a few minutes rather than dumping big streams.
How do I size my pots and plants for Super Soil? Think mature plants. Super Soil shines with established transplants in final containers; for small plants, use the buffer method or a lighter, diluted mix first.
How far will each kit size go? The variants are named for total soil volume they’re designed to amend at typical rates: 30 L/500 g, 120 L/2 kg, and 270 L/4.5 kg.
Is peat or coco better? Both work. Peat retains a bit more moisture; coco offers great structure and is renewable. Choose based on what you can source and how wet/dry your environment runs. (Mixing guidance is the same.)
What counts as “aeration”? Perlite, pumice, scoria, hydroton/leca — any inert, chunky material that boosts air-filled porosity and prevents compaction.
What if I didn’t mix Super Soil Nutrient Kit in at the start — can I top-feed later? Yes. Growers have successfully “poker-hole” top-dress fed mid-run without burn by gently working the amendment into holes and watering in. Still, premixing before the cook is best practice.
How do I re-amend after harvest to reuse the same soil? Top dress 200–300 g per container (adjust for how heavy the last crop fed), moisten, and let it sit to re-activate (typically 2–4 weeks is enough on an already-alive bed).
Indoors or outdoors — does it matter? Works in both. Indoors, airflow and watering precision are your big levers; outdoors, protect from heavy rain during the cook and keep moisture steady.
How do I avoid fungus gnats and other annoyances while it cooks? Keep the mix covered (tarp or lid with breather holes), avoid over-watering, and maintain good drainage/aeration. Sticky traps and a dry mulch cap help if they show up.
Can I run bottled nutrients with the Super Soil Nutrient Kit? You can, but you usually don’t need to. The kit is designed as a complete dry nutrient program; if you add salts you risk disrupting biology and overfeeding. Stick to teas/kelp/microbes if you want a boost.
What about compost teas — how often? Optional, not mandatory. A light aerated compost tea once every few weeks can refresh microbial activity, especially after heavy watering or if plants stall.
Is there a smell while Super Soil’s cooking? It’ll smell like healthy compost/earth — not foul. If it stinks (anaerobic), it’s too wet or compacted; turn it, add aeration, and rebalance moisture.
How long will the nutrients last in a run? That depends on crop appetite, pot size, and environment. The kit is built to carry typical full-cycle annuals in a properly sized container without bottled feeds; heavy feeders may benefit from a mid-run microbial/kelp top-up.
How do I know if I used too much of the Super Soil Nutrient Kit? Classic signs: dark, clawed leaves and slowed growth early on. If plants are young or sensitive, use the buffer method or dilute the mix further (e.g., add extra base media).
What media should I avoid mixing with Super Soil Nutrient Kit? Avoid fresh, un-composted manures or high-salt media. They can swing EC and stress the soil biology you’re trying to cultivate.
Is Super Soil Nutrient Kit safe for edibles? Yes — it’s built for organic-style growing. Use clean water and quality compost/castings, and observe the standard pre-harvest hygiene you’d use for any veggie garden.
Will Super Soil Nutrient Kit work for houseplants/ornamentals, not just edibles? Absolutely. For houseplants or sensitive species, start at the 300 g/30 L rate or dilute further to match the plant’s feeding profile.
How do I handle very fast-draining or very water-retentive conditions? Tweak the aeration fraction. If pots dry too fast, pull aeration back slightly and add more compost/castings; if they stay wet, bump aeration up. (Same 10/10/10 baseline is your anchor.)
Does Super Soil Nutrient Kit age matter? What’s the shelf life sealed? Dry amendments store well sealed, cool, and dry for 12+ months. Keep the kit closed tight to avoid moisture wicking and nutrient caking.
Can I use Super Soil Nutrient Kit in living-bed/no-till setups? Yes. Mix it into the upper layer when building a bed, or top-dress between cycles and let biology incorporate it. It aligns with living-soil/no-till methods.
How is this different from TurboDirt? TurboDirt is a ready-to-grow, bagged super soil — open, pot, water. The Super Soil Nutrient Kit is the amendment pack to build/refresh your own super soil from peat/coco, compost, and aeration. Use the kit when you want to DIY or re-amend existing soil; use TurboDirt when you want straight-out-of-the-bag convenience.
What additives pair well with the Super Soil Nutrient Kit? Mycorrhizal inoculant at transplant, liquid kelp, and occasional compost tea. Skip the salt-based feeds unless you’re intentionally switching away from living-soil style growing.
Will this help me stop buying new soil every grow? Yes — top-dress and re-amend to keep cycling the same soil. Multiple customers call out that it saves on buying new media each run.
I’m short on time — any shortcuts? At minimum, give it 2–4 weeks if you’re re-amending an already living soil; for brand-new mixes, aim closer to the full 1–3 months. Keep it warm and moist (not soggy) to speed microbial activity.
What if my tap water is chloramine, not chlorine? Use a small carbon filter or products designed to neutralize chloramine; it doesn’t off-gas like chlorine.
Common mistakes to avoid? Over-watering during the cook (goes anaerobic), planting tiny seedlings straight into hot mix, and dumping in bottled salts “just because.” Stick to the rates, buffer juveniles, and keep moisture even.
Can I use fabric pots, plastic, or raised beds? All fine. Fabric pots can help air-prune roots and keep oxygen high; plastic holds moisture longer — adjust watering accordingly.
How do I calculate how many Super Soil Nutrient Kits I need for my garden beds? Work from total soil volume: (L × W × H in meters) × 1000 = liters. Then plan ~300–500 g per 30 L. Or use the product variants as a guide: 500 g ≈ 30 L, 2 kg ≈ 120 L, 4.5 kg ≈ 270 L.
Shipping or pick-up options? Ships nationwide and is available for pickup from our Bellambi, NSW store (usually ready in ~24 hours).
Absolutely love it. Didn't get to mix it in at the start, so I did the old 'poker holes in the soil' trick and fed some in that way.
I was worried that without mixing it in correctly, that I would burn the plants but the stories weren't true here.
Grab some!
Thanks Timothy! Love the creativity—poking holes always does the trick! Stoked the Super Soil kit is working a treat and no dramas with the plants. Appreciate the top notch review and the tip for other growers!
