FAQs

What exactly is Neem Meal?
A certified-organic soil amendment made from cold-pressed, ground neem seeds. It feeds gently (slow-release nutrients) and supports integrated pest management (IPM).

Is it the same as “neem cake”?
Yep — “neem meal” and “neem cake” are commonly used interchangeably for the de-oiled seed residue after pressing. Different brands just use different names.

What’s the nutrient analysis like?
Neem meal typically tests in the low, gentle range (often around 4-1-2 to 6-1-2), which makes it hard to burn plants and great for steady feeding.

How do I apply Neem Meal in garden beds?
Mix in 1–2 cups per square metre and water in well. That’s the rate we publish on the product page.

How much for pots and containers?
For a 30 L container, ¼–½ cup worked into the top few centimetres of media, then water. Reapply periodically (see next Q).

How often should I reapply?
Every 2–3 months is a solid cadence for ongoing nutrition and IPM benefits, especially in active growing seasons.

When will I see results?
It’s slow-release — expect improvements over several weeks as microbes break it down and plants take it up.

Can I use Neem Meal at any plant stage (seedling, veg, flower)?
Yes — it’s suitable at any growth stage as a soil amendment. Just stick to the rates above.

Does Neem Meal actually help with pests?
Neem meal naturally contains azadirachtin and related limonoids that can deter soil pests (e.g., some grubs and nematodes) and support IPM — but note it isn’t a registered pesticide in Australia. Use it as part of a broader program.

Will Neem Meal help with fungus gnats?
Customers frequently report fewer gnats after top-dressing — we’ve got reviews saying exactly that — but treat it as suppression, not a silver bullet. Combine with traps and proper watering.

Is Neem Meal safe for edible gardens?
Yes — it’s certified organic and safe to use around vegetables, fruit and herbs when used as directed.

Will Neem Meal hurt earthworms or beneficial soil life?
No — properly used, neem cake is compatible with soil biology and is even reported to increase earthworm populations.

Does Neem Meal smell?
A bit. Neem meal has a distinctive, garlicky/earthy smell — totally normal and it dissipates after watering in.

Can I brew “neem meal tea” or foliar from it?
Some growers steep neem meal and use the strained liquid as a drench or foliar; if you try it, keep it mild, strain very well, and test on a leaf first. This is more community practice than lab science.

Will Neem Meal burn plants if I overdo it?
It’s low-analysis and slow-release, so it has a low burn risk compared to hot manures — just don’t dump piles against stems or over-apply.

What does Neem Meal do for soil beyond N-P-K?
Improves structure and moisture retention, supports microbial activity, may gently acidify alkaline soils over time, and can reduce nitrification (so nitrogen sticks around longer).

Is Neem Meal okay for indoor plants?
Yes — top-dress lightly and water in. It’s popular with houseplant folks; just remember there’s a light smell after application.

Is Neem Meal pet-safe?
Safe to use in gardens around pets when incorporated into soil and used as directed — but don’t leave unincorporated piles where animals could eat it. Keep pets from ingesting it.

Is Neem Meal bee-safe?
As a soil amendment, it doesn’t target pollinators. Many listings and guides consider neem cake/oil non-harmful to beneficials when used correctly. Avoid dusting blooms and follow IPM best practice.

Can I combine Neem Meal with other amendments (kelp, compost, etc.)?
Absolutely — it plays nicely with composts and meals. Many organic growers pair it with kelp, crustacean or alfalfa for a broader nutrient profile.

Is Neem Meal good for lawns, trees and shrubs too?
Yes — you can broadcast and rake in for turf and around drip lines for trees/shrubs. Water in well.

Can I use Neem Meal in hydroponics?
Not really. It’s a particulate organic amendment made for soil/potting mixes; solids can clog hydro systems. If you experiment with a filtered “tea,” proceed carefully and monitor your system.

How should I store Neem Meal and how long does it last?
Keep it cool, dry, sealed and out of sun. Expect roughly 12–18 months of good quality when stored well.

How much will I need?
As a rough guide, 1 kg covers ~5–10 m² at our recommended 1–2 cups per m².

Is Neem Meal OMRI or certified organic?
Our product is sold as certified organic/wild-harvested, suitable for organic gardens.

Any region-specific (Australia) compliance notes?
Yes — while neem meal naturally contains azadirachtin, it is not registered as a pesticide in Australia. We sell it as a soil amendment for IPM support, not as a stand-alone pesticide.
